Buying a pre-owned Rolex
Start with the reference, not the name
Rolex keeps a model name for decades while the watch inside changes.
Look hard at the dial, bezel and hands
The dial, hands and bezel should belong to the same era.
Case and bracelet
Rolex cases are cut with sharp edges, and a heavy polish rounds them off.
Box, papers and service history
A complete set is nice to have and helps the story of the watch, but it is not the only thing that matters.
Which one is for you
If you want one watch for everything
Start with a Datejust or an Oyster Perpetual.
If you want a sports watch
The Submariner and the GMT-Master II are two of the best-known steel sports Rolex lines.
If you travel often
The GMT-Master II tracks a second time zone with its 24-hour hand and bezel.
Questions
Can I walk in and buy a Rolex?
You can visit us in the downtown Los Angeles jewelry district by appointment, Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm Pacific. Call (213) 373-4424 or email sales@mywatchdealer.com to set a time, and tell us which watches you would like to see.
What comes with a pre-owned Rolex from you?
Every watch we sell comes with a 2-year store warranty covering the movement, a MyLuxApp-certified written appraisal and a presentation box. The warranty is ours, not Rolex's. We are an independent dealer and not affiliated with Rolex.
Do I need the original box and papers?
They are nice to have, but a good watch without them is still a good watch. Ask what is included with the specific piece, and what has been replaced. A well-kept watch with a service history can be a better buy than a full set on a tired one.
How can I tell whether a Rolex is real?
Check for crisp dial printing, even lume, a smooth sweeping seconds hand and consistent finishing on the case and bracelet. Many modern Rolex watches also have the serial engraved on the inner ring of the dial. Photos hide a lot, so buying from a dealer who inspects on their own bench is the surest protection.
Can I return a Rolex I buy?
Unworn in-stock pieces can be returned: you have 7 days from delivery to start a return. Special orders are a different case, because we source them after you ask. They are final sale unless the watch is defective or not as described.
How does shipping work?
Shipping is free, insured and overnight on orders of $1,000 or more, and signature is required on delivery. Orders under $1,000 ship for a flat $55.
How can I pay?
You can pay by card, which carries a 3.5% fee, with a lower wire price shown beside it, or by bank wire. We also take crypto, handled desk-to-buyer, and Affirm or Klarna on eligible orders.
Is a pre-owned Rolex covered by Rolex's warranty?
No. We are an independent dealer, and the 2-year store warranty on our watches is ours and covers the movement.
