Buying a pre-owned Rolex Daytona

Know the generations

Hand-wound Daytonas came first, from 1963.

Study the dial and registers

Look at the three sub-dials.

Test the chronograph

The screw-down pushers should unscrew and press with a clean action, and the seconds hand should start.

Check the case, bracelet and set

Look at the lugs for soft, polished edges, the bracelet for stretch and the clasp for a clean close.

Which one is for you

If you want the steel classic

Look at the 116520 or, if you prefer the older style, the 16520 family.

If you want gold or two-tone

Look at the 116503, 126503-0001 or the white gold 126509.

If you want the current generation

The 126-series from 2023 uses caliber 4131 and is the most recent version, so ask us which ones we have.

Questions

What should I check on a used Rolex Daytona?

Check the three sub-dials for even placement and crisp printing, the pushers for a clean action, and the chronograph for a reliable start, stop and reset. Also look at the lugs for over-polishing and the bracelet for stretch. If anything has been replaced, you should be told.

Why is a Daytona hard to find?

Demand has long been higher than supply, so used examples don't stay in the case long. If we don't have the reference you want, send it to us and we will look for it.

Can I walk in and buy a Daytona?

Yes, by appointment, Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm Pacific, in the downtown Los Angeles jewelry district. Call (213) 373-4424 or email sales@mywatchdealer.com so we can have the Daytonas you want ready.

What comes with a used Daytona from you?

A 2-year store warranty covering the movement, a MyLuxApp-certified written appraisal and a presentation box. The warranty is ours, not Rolex's, and we are an independent dealer.

How do I tell a real Daytona from a fake?

Look at the dial printing, the sub-dial placement and the pusher action, and then have someone open the watch. Photos can hide a lot, and a quick look can fool you. Buying from a dealer who checks on their own bench is the safest route.

Can I return it?

Unworn in-stock pieces can be returned: you have 7 days from delivery to start a return. Special orders are final sale unless the watch is defective or not as described.
