What shapes your offer

Case finishing and bevels

A Royal Oak is a study in brushed and polished surfaces with fine bevels between them.

The tapisserie dial

The checked tapisserie pattern should be crisp and even from edge to edge, with applied markers and hands in good order.

The bracelet and its links

The bracelet is made for the case and cannot be swapped for a generic one.

Which Royal Oak it is

The line runs from the original thin 39mm Jumbo of 1972 through selfwinding three-hand models to chronographs and smaller sizes.

Before you send it

  • Write down the full reference code from your papers or the caseback, not just the first digits.
  • Gather the box, papers, spare links or straps and any service receipts.
  • Do not polish it, service it or have the bracelet resized before you send it.
  • Photograph the dial, the eight bezel screws, case sides, caseback and clasp in daylight.

Questions

What do you need to give me an offer on my Royal Oak?

The full reference, the condition, whether you have the box and papers, your asking price and clear photos. The asking price is required, and the minimum value we work with is $2,000.

Does a missing box change the offer?

It can, a little. Missing papers usually matter more than a missing box, and both matter more on a recent watch. Tell us what you have, and the dealer will take it into account.

How is a Royal Oak different from a Royal Oak Offshore?

The Royal Oak, launched in 1972, is slimmer, with an octagonal bezel and an integrated bracelet. The Offshore, from 1993, is larger and heavier with a sportier look. They are valued as separate families, so tell us which you have.

What do you check on a Royal Oak?

The tapisserie dial pattern, the case finishing and bevels, the bezel screws, the bracelet for stretch and missing links, and the clasp. We also check the movement on our bench.

Why do Audemars Piguet references get discontinued?

The maker updates the Royal Oak with new proportions, movements and dials, and retires the old reference. It does not usually explain each change. It matters because the full reference tells us which generation you own, so please send the whole code.

Can I put the value toward another watch?

Yes. You can apply the full agreed value as trade credit toward any watch we sell, whether that is a Patek Philippe, a Rolex or another Audemars Piguet. Or you can take cash. The desk confirms payment details with you.

Is the first offer final?

An offer made from photos and a description is indicative until the watch is inspected on our bench in Los Angeles. If it is as described, the offer stands. If it differs, the dealer will explain.
