What shapes your offer
The whole reference, dash included
Patek numbers carry a lot of meaning.
Current, retired or long gone
Patek updates its lines by retiring a reference and introducing a new one.
Case lines and dial untouched
Patek cases are finished by hand, with crisp bevels and a deliberate contrast between brushed and polished surfaces.
Box, papers and the Archives extract
A complete set helps, most of all on newer watches.
Before you send it
- Write down the full reference number from your papers or the caseback, with the dash number if there is one.
- Gather the box, papers, any Extract from the Archives, spare bracelet links and service receipts.
- Do not polish it, service it or have the bracelet resized before you send it.
- Photograph the dial, case sides, caseback, clasp and box in daylight, and show any mark you already know about.
- Decide on your asking price.
Your full offer becomes credit toward any watch we sell.
How trade-in worksQuestions
Do I need the Extract from the Archives to sell my Patek Philippe?
No. You can ask for an offer with just the reference, photos and your asking price. An Extract from the Archives from Patek confirms the watch's characteristics, the year it was made and, where recorded, when it was sold. That is most useful on older pieces or where there is a question about originality, so include it if you have it.
Does a missing box change the offer?
It can, a little, and more on a recent watch than an older one. Missing papers usually matter more than a missing box. Tell us what you have and what you do not, and the dealer will take it into account.
What do you need to give me an offer?
The brand, model and full reference, the condition, whether you have the box and papers, your asking price and a few clear photos. The asking price is required, and the minimum value we work with is $2,000.
Why do Patek references get discontinued, and does it matter when I sell?
Patek refreshes its lines by retiring a reference and bringing in a new one. The maker does not usually explain each change. It matters because a retired reference can no longer be ordered new, so the full reference tells us which generation you have. Please give us the whole number, dash included.
Can I put the value toward another watch?
Yes. You can apply the full agreed value as trade credit toward any watch we sell, whether that is a Rolex, an Audemars Piguet or another Patek. Or you can take cash. The desk confirms payment details with you.
Is the first offer final?
An offer made from photos and a description is indicative until the watch is inspected on our bench in Los Angeles. If the watch is as described, the offer stands. If something differs, the dealer will tell you what and why.
My watch needs work. Can I still sell it?
Tell us honestly what is wrong and send photos. Condition shapes the offer, and a dealer will say what they can do. The watch should still be valued at $2,000 or more.
Can I bring the watch in rather than ship it?
Yes, by appointment at our downtown Los Angeles jewelry district desk, Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm Pacific. You can also ship it on a prepaid insured label. Call (213) 373-4424 or write to sales@mywatchdealer.com.
