Buying a pre-owned Panerai Luminor

What makes it a Luminor

The crown guard is the giveaway.

Pick a size you can wear

Panerai cases are large.

The reference tells you the watch

The PAM number identifies the case, dial, movement and edition.

Dial, lume and crown guard

The dial should be clean with even lume, and the crown guard should sit flush.

Which one is for you

If you want the classic Luminor

Look at the Luminor Marina, with the crown guard and a plain dial.

If you want a long power reserve

The Luminor Base 8 Days is hand-wound and runs eight days between windings.

If you like complications

The Luminor Flyback adds a chronograph with a flyback function, and the Luminor 1950 offers a different case style.

Questions

What is the difference between a Luminor and a Radiomir?

The Luminor has a crown-protecting guard, and the earlier Radiomir does not. Both use a cushion-shaped case. The Luminor is the version most people picture when they think of Panerai.

What size Luminor should I buy?

The classic size is 44mm, which suits most wrists of average size or larger. Smaller wrists often do better with 40mm or 42mm cases. Send your wrist size to the desk if you are unsure.

What does the PAM number mean?

It is Panerai's reference number. A small change in the number can mean a different case, dial, movement or edition, so check the exact number in the listing and ask the desk to confirm it.

What is the Luminor 1950?

It is a Luminor in the 1950 case style, which has a different shape from the standard case. Check the reference on the listing.

Does a missing box or papers matter?

It matters for completeness, but not for how the watch performs. We show clearly what comes with each watch.

Do your Luminor watches have a warranty?

Every watch we sell comes with a 2-year store warranty on the movement. It is our warranty, not the manufacturer's, and we are an independent dealer, not affiliated with Panerai.

How is it shipped and can I return it?

Shipping is free, insured and overnight on orders of $1,000 and up, with signature required. Unworn in-stock pieces can be returned: you have 7 days from delivery to start a return.
