Three generations frame the catalog. The first, from 1956 to roughly 1977, brought slim refs 1802 through 1808 with gilt dials. The second, running into 2000, added the quickset date on the 18038 and 18238. The modern run moved to 118xxx and 218xxx, then today's 128xxx and 228xxx with Cal. 3255. Gold or platinum throughout. We price each one to the trade and a wire payment beats card. Read the full Day-Date buying guide ›
Benchmark is the right word here. Since Hans Wilsdorf launched it in 1905, Rolex has defined what a mechanical watch should be, with firsts in waterproofing, self-winding, and date displays that gave it lasting credibility. Brand recognition is near-universal and the steel sports lineup holds value like few assets. Submariner, GMT-Master II, and Daytona routinely clear retail secondhand, so a wire payment and dealer-direct number put you ahead before the box even ships. Browse all Rolex ›
