Why Trade Up from Rolex to Patek Philippe?

Rolex is one of the most liquid watch brands on the secondary market, which makes it an effective trade currency when upgrading. Patek Philippe occupies a different position: lower production volumes, more complex movements, and a collecting community that has sustained strong secondary-market interest over decades. A trade-in allows you to move from one to the other in a single transaction rather than selling your Rolex separately and then shopping for a Patek independently.

The references that attract the most trade-up interest are the Nautilus and the Aquanaut — sport watches from Patek that carry a collector premium well above entry-level dress references. A buyer who owns a Rolex Submariner or GMT-Master II and wants to step up to Patek often looks at these two first, though the Calatrava draws buyers upgrading from Datejust and Day-Date as well.

Rolex Models We Accept as Trade-Ins

The desk buys and accepts all Rolex references valued at $2,000 or more. The models that move most frequently through our trade desk include:

  • Rolex Submariner — steel, two-tone and gold variants
  • Rolex GMT-Master II — all bezel configurations, modern and vintage
  • Rolex Daytona — steel, Everose and white-gold references
  • Rolex Day-Date — yellow, white and Everose gold
  • Rolex Datejust — 36mm and 41mm, steel and two-tone
  • All other Rolex references — modern and vintage, with or without box and papers, valued at $2,000 or more

Not sure whether your specific reference qualifies? Submit it — a dealer reviews every submission.

Patek Philippe References You Can Trade Into

Trade credit applies to any Patek Philippe currently in our inventory or available to source. References the desk regularly handles include:

  • Patek Philippe Nautilus — steel and two-tone sport references
  • Patek Philippe Aquanaut — steel sport references with rubber strap
  • Patek Philippe Calatrava — round dress references in gold
  • Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar — annual and perpetual calendar complications
  • Patek Philippe Complications — World Time and other grand complication references

References not currently on the desk may be sourced. Check our Patek Philippe inventory or contact the desk at (213) 373-4424 to confirm current availability.

How We Calculate Your Rolex Trade-In Value

A dealer reads every trade-in submission and replies with a firm offer.

The factors that most affect your offer are reference and model, condition (unworn, like-new, excellent, good or fair), and whether you have the original box and papers. Full sets — box plus papers — earn the strongest offers. Watch-only pieces are accepted too, but a complete set always supports a higher number.

Want an independent written valuation before you commit? A MyLuxApp-certified appraisal is $150 flat and provides a written valuation you can reference at any point in the transaction.

Trade-In vs. Selling Outright

If you already know which Patek Philippe you want, applying your Rolex as trade credit is often the most direct path. You submit one form, receive one offer, and the desk handles both legs of the shipping. You pay any difference between the trade value and the Patek price by card, bank wire, crypto or Affirm.

If you prefer cash first — to shop around before committing to a specific Patek — selling outright is equally available. Note your preference when you submit the watch details and the desk quotes accordingly. The minimum value for either route is $2,000 or more.
