Buying a pre-owned Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore
Try the crown and pushers
The Offshore's oversized crown and pushers do most of the work and take most of the knocks.
Check the strap and fit
Offshores usually sit on a rubber-style strap.
Know the material
Steel, titanium, ceramic, carbon and gold behave differently.
Read the reference and the set
The reference gives model, case material and dial and strap codes, so compare it with the papers and the caseback.
Which one is for you
If you want the classic Offshore...
Look at the 42mm chronograph.
If you want to wear it in the water...
Look at the Offshore Diver.
If you want a smaller Offshore...
Look at the 37mm models in gold, titanium or ceramic.
Questions
What Offshore models do you have?
We list Offshore chronographs and other models, and the selection changes. Check the current listings or call the desk on (213) 373-4424.
How does the Royal Oak differ from the Royal Oak Offshore?
The Royal Oak, from 1972, is slimmer and more refined, with an integrated bracelet. The Offshore, from 1993, is larger and thicker, with a sportier feel and oversized crown and pushers. Try both on the wrist if you can.
What should I check on a sporty integrated case?
The dial pattern, the strap or bracelet, and the case finishing. Look for crisp dial detail, strap wear and rounded edges from polishing. Ask for close photos.
Why do references get discontinued, and why does it matter?
Audemars Piguet retires a reference when it updates a line. A retired reference cannot be ordered new, so pre-owned or a sourced piece is the route. Check the exact reference you are being shown.
Can you find a specific Offshore reference?
That is what the special order service is for. Send the reference and your budget, and the desk replies with a quote. Nothing is paid before price and availability are confirmed. After payment, expect 7-10 business days. Special orders are final sale unless defective or not as described.
Can I trade a Rolex toward an Offshore?
Yes. Trade credit applies to any watch we sell. Send us the Rolex through the sell page, take the firm offer, and apply the full agreed value toward the Offshore. You can also take cash.
Can I return it?
Unworn in-stock pieces can be returned: you have 7 days from delivery to start a return. Shipping is free, insured and overnight on orders of $1,000 and over, with a signature required.
Downtown Los Angeles, by appointment. Mon–Fri 10am–6pm Pacific.
