The 116610LN is the Submariner most people picture. Forty millimeters of steel, a black dial, and the black ceramic bezel that replaced the old aluminum insert — the one that faded and scratched. Ceramic doesn't do that. Fifteen, twenty years out, the bezel on this watch will read the same as it does today.
That is a big part of what collectors pay up for on this reference. It's the last of the pre-Cerachrom-crown-guard-era proportions before Rolex went to 41mm, so the wrist presence stays honest. Steel and Oyster bracelet, black on black — nothing to date it, nothing to chase.
Condition is where the money sits on these. A 116610LN with a clean dial, sharp lugs, and its papers moves faster and firmer than a tired one, and the spread between the two is real. This is a 2016, used, and it comes with papers.
