Forty millimeters gets thrown around like it's big. On the GMT-Master II ref 126710blnr-0003 it isn't. The lugs are short and turn down early, so the case ends where your wrist ends instead of hanging past the bone. On a 6.5-inch wrist it reads as present, not oversized — you notice it, but it doesn't wear you.
The blue-and-black ceramic bezel does the balancing. Split the color and the eye stops reading the watch as one solid slab of steel, which is what makes smaller cases look chunky. The black dial keeps the face tight and legible. From a normal viewing distance the two-tone bezel is the first thing anyone clocks.
The Oyster bracelet helps here too. Flat three-link, brushed center, it hugs the wrist and follows the taper down toward the clasp rather than sitting proud. Sleeves stay a factor — this clears most shirt cuffs but a slim dress cuff will catch it.
