The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak

Gérald Genta drew the octagonal bezel and integrated bracelet in 1972, and the Royal Oak has held its ground ever since. Steel at a luxury price was the gamble that paid off, lifting sport-chic into haute horlogerie. The Grande Tapisserie dial, exposed screws, and seamless case-to-bracelet flow still define it. The core line runs 39mm to 44mm, with the 41mm ref. 15500 leading secondary demand. Most trade at or above retail. Read the full Royal Oak buying guide ›

About Audemars Piguet

Audemars Piguet has run independent and family-controlled out of Le Brassus since 1875, which puts it in rare company at the top of Swiss watchmaking with Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. The 1972 Royal Oak, drawn by Gerald Genta, rewrote what a luxury sports watch could be. On the trade desk, Royal Oak demand stays heavy. Pay by wire and skip the card fee, and we'll quote a fair number same day. Browse all Audemars Piguet ›
